HOW TO USE CHATGPT FOR YOUR ENGLISH

After testing ChatGPT for several years, I feel that this is a must-have tool for anyone trying to improve their brand communication in English.

WHY USE CHATGPT?

ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity or other AI tools will save you time and money in many ways. In terms of your English, it’s like having a communication team at your fingertips.

HOW CAN YOU USE CHATGPT FOR YOUR ENGLISH?

Here are some of the most useful ways you can use ChatGPT for your English communication:

1. WRITE TEXTS

If you need to write professional texts like emails, website texts, concepts, presentations or proposals in English, ChatGPT will do it for you. It’s like having a personal office assistant at your disposal. Just tell ChatGPT some keywords, the purpose of the text and the style, and it will write it for you. Don’t like the result? Just ask it to make it shorter, clearer, more sophisticated, etc. You may have worked with DeepL and Grammarly in the past. ChatGPT does it all. I recently tested it with a client to come up with potential slogans for an upcoming conference they were organizing. What can I say? It’s like having a team of copywriters available at one click.

2. TRANSLATE TEXTS

You can use ChatGPT to translate German texts into English. To me, AI tools are much better at translating texts than classic machine translation tools like DeepL and GoogleTranslate because they are much more interactive. You can ask ChatGPT to match a certain brand voice and customize the text to a specific audience. You can develop slogans with it. And you can critically question results to check if the wording sounds natural or if terms are really commonly used in your industry.

3. TRAIN YOUR ENGLISH

You can learn English with ChatGPT in many ways:

1. Speaking: Invest in the pro version of ChatGPT. It’s worth it. You can then use the audio function and have real conversations with the app. Talk about whatever is on your mind. Ask questions about terminology from your industry. Or simulate meetings to prepare for work.
2. Vocabulary: You can ask ChatGPT about vocabulary from your industry. Ask it make a list in English and German with or without examples, and export the list as a word or xls file. You can also ask ChatGPT to test you on the words.
3. Grammar: You can ask ChatGPT to explain grammar to you or test you on whatever you are practicing. You could also upload a text you wrote, ask it to find your grammar mistakes, and then practice this specific grammar issue.
4. Reading: If you have to read complex texts, you can ask ChatGPT to summarize them for you, to explain certain passages, etc.
5. Pronunciation: You can listen to words on ChatGPT, repeat them, and ask for feedback on your pronunciation.

RISKS AND DOWNSIDES OF USING CHATGPT

There are a few risks and disadvantages of using ChatGPT:

1. CAPACITY

ChatGPT is currently provided at no cost. Millions of people are using it around the globe. That’s why you might not be able to access it because it is technically at capacity. ChatGPT Plus is currently available in Austria at around 20 USD per month. It’s worth the investment and available much more reliably.

2. DATA

Be aware that all the data you put in ChatGPT will be used to optimize the system. When you start the site, you will even get a warning not to share confidential information.

3. RELIABILITY

The answers you will be getting on ChatGPT to your questions will sound very professional and “human”. Be sure to fact-check them. Some of the replies might be incorrect.
